Elite Squad Coaching 2010

Pre-season training starts with two assessment days on Sunday 28th February  and Sunday 7th March 2010. All candidates are selected from the previous years performance and their current handicaps of 12 and below as of 1st January 2010. We are currently targeting  players 8 and below for 1st Team and 12 and below for 2nd Team. A selection committee will also look at the performance of promising juniors who are likely to come down in handicap early in the year. Throughout the winter months  they have been monitored on a ‘club and coach ‘ programme and meetings with the pro’s takes place prior to selection.

The programme for the start of the season takes the format of group coaching sessions along with the option of selected players having individual or coaching in two’s from a pro of their choice.  As Graham Farr (Worcester G.C.C) and Kevin Hayward (Kings Norton G.C ) are our WHLCGA nominated Head  Pro’s the majority of players take their lessons with either. All invited players will forward Self Evaluation Forms to the pros prior to the first assessment session.

A selection committee including a player representative then decide on a short list of players that are aiming for team selection for County Week in June. The 2nd Team short list is also chosen. A series of Practice Matches takes place where players match performance is monitored. All Juniors selected are encouraged to gain match experience from the senior members of the squad. Liaison with Junior Team Manager (Rhona Humphries ) is ongoing. The pre-season matches are played against neighbouring counties and a new match this year versus the County Intermediate boys may prove a challenge.  Selected  players are encouraged to play in as many matches as possible to get match experience at a highly competitive level.

Preparation for this top squad will include individual coaching on all aspects and group discussion sessions on course management, practice and how to utilize, pre-shot routines and mental approach to the game. Two practice sessions will take place at Goring and Streatley  G.C. prior to County Week.

All the dates of the assessments, matches and group coaching sessions are available on the Fixture Card 2010 and letters/ emails have been sent to all prospective players in January and February.
