Over a hundred years ago a group of members from the golf clubs of Worcestershire, Kings Norton, Blackwell and Stourbridge met to discuss the formation of a County Club in Worcestershire.  In 1903 the Worcestershire County Golf Club was formed (later to be called County Association).

At that inaugural meeting the Countess of Dudley consented to be President and allowed her crest to be used as part of the County badge i.e. ‘crest – out of their a ducal coronet’ and ‘a lion’s head azure’.  The Captain was Mrs Edward Chance of Stourbridge.  Enamelled badges were purchased and the colours for the County Club being dark green, black and white.  The first match was played against Lincolnshire at Woodhall Spa on 17th March 1903.  Worcestershire won!  Worcestershire proceeded to win the next four matches.  They reached the finals at Sunningdale.

So much is owed to those founder members over a 100 years ago and to the members who have given their time and commitment to the Association during the decades that followed.

To celebrate the County’s Centenary, Mrs Sylvia James (Hon Secretary 2000 and 2001) produced a book telling the story of the characters, their enthusiasm and generosity and the events of a 100 years of ladies’ golf in Worcestershire.

Books may be purchased from the County Captain for £5.00
